How can you keep wet african american hair from getting frizzy and poofy?
I have regular african american hair and i cant stand it, the only thing thats gooda about it is that after i wash it, it gets perfectly crimpy and it looks really pretty i wish that I could keep it like that but if i let it air dry it'll like turn into an afro. Is their any way to keep my cute wavy look nice without it getting frizzy and poofy? Like are their any products available that work, keep in mind that i have regular african american hair. pleasee help me.How can you keep wet african american hair from getting frizzy and poofy?
I have tried to achieve that look many times over the summer. I have a relaxer and I used gel and Smooth n Shine Polishing spray. Eventually from me wetting my hair so much to keep that look it eventually started to break and my scalp became so dry. So, be careful what people suggest. Just a suggestion, as an alternative you can try to get a wave from like Gold n Hot (ceramic is less damaging to the hair) or even a crimpler. Just make sure you apply some heat protectant (like Motions Heat Protector or Aveda Brilliant Damage Control). Good luck! How can you keep wet african american hair from getting frizzy and poofy?
Try Let's Jam Straightening cream. It works for me. all you do is after you wash your hair apply a generous amount of the product and you can blow dry or air dry. I don't know how thick your hair is but if you have thick hair it will releive some frizziness but not all.
add jell or add some braids to your hair styles and tie it up at night
use a deep leave in moisturizer like Neutragena Triple moisture, and use some curly pudding. Do a search for it, because I don't know the brand name. I have seen others results, but I have not tried it myself.
My hair is also crimpy-like while wet, but frizzy when dry. I just accept the frizzyness, and I LOVE MY HAIR.
John Freda makes a couple of products that will kind of help but it will NOT give you the exact result you are thinking of. He has a Hair Serum that you put in your hair while wet to help cut down on frizziness get the extra strength one. And he has a Curl spray to help keep hair curly. I have used them both and i have African American Hair that is not mixed with anything else. I use it when I don't want to put heat on my hair. BUT I have a relaxer too so if your hair is natural I don't know how it will work
You could always shave it off. Sinead O'Connor looked great.

To help it grow? Would getting a deep conditioner twice / week help also? What's the best deep conditioner to use for african american hair?
what works for one person's hair may not work for yours. i use organic root stimulator's replenshing conditioner. if it's a protein deep conditioner it can make your hair brittle if you use it too often. a moisturizing deep conditioner can be used as much as you needed. What's the best deep conditioner to use for african american hair?

What relaxers make african american hair like other people?
I want it for my birthdayWhat relaxers make african american hair like other people?
Is this your first relaxer? You should go to a hair salon and let them apply it. However if you INSIST on doing it at home Dr. Miracles Has a great relaxer system (that includes a hair potion that makes your hair feel AMAZING)
But please go to the salon... ESPECIALLY if its the first relaxer.
And just a side not you can achieve the LOOK of a relaxer by just getting your hair pressed. That way you don't have to make such a drastic chemical change... And you might miss your natural hair :-)What relaxers make african american hair like other people?
What do you mean like other peoples'? Dr. Miracles is ';good'; in a sense of, it relaxes hair well, however it isn't healthy for your scalp or hair (and WILL cause some degree of damage).
Just get a chi straightener or a sedu for your birthday instead, not only is it better for your hair, but you'll be abe to get the look of relaxed hair without the chemical change (that ruins hair), and you can do it at home without having to go to the salon.
What do you mean ';like other people';?
Do you mean make the hair straight, curly, wavy?
OTHER PEOPLE consists of many different OTHER PEOPLE with different types and/or grades of hair. Even other african americans have different types/grades of hair.

What's the fastest way to get African American hair to grow?
Well my friends daughter is 11, She has medium hair her hair is so nice and thick it's a good length. But her hair is breaking off like little pieces of hair coming off. What should her mother do? I don't want her hair to fall out. Plus how can i get her hair to grow longer? What's the fastest way to get African American hair to grow?
Im going to repost an answer I used on another question which asked the same thing:
every black girl has gone through the phase were the hair will not grow past her shoulders. When I relaxed my hair I used http://www.growafrohairlong.com/ and followed her regimen for washing and maintaining hair and my hair grew to bra-strap length. I say grew (past tense) because I stopped getting relaxers and am now going natural so I've been trimming my hair to get rid of the relaxed ends.
The basic regimen was once a week:
pre-poo (optional)
wash
deep condition
leave in/moisturize
air dry
oil scalp
style (low manipulation)
Products I would recommend are:
Creme of nature shampoo
Pantene Relaxed and Natural Hair Mask (conditioner)
Neutroena Triple Moisture (conditioner)
Aphogee 2min reconstructor (protein conditioner, to be done every 8-12wks.)
other:
-stretch your relaxer longer than the recommended 6wks to avoid over processing and breakage.
-keep your hair properly moisturized and up off your shoulders to avoid split ends and breakage.
-try not to manipulate the hair to much, try low manipulation hair styles like buns, twists, and/or braids.
-baggy the ends to keep them moisturized
-trim every 4-5 months, healthy hair can go this long w/o trim. Trimming every 6 weeks will just make your hair shorter. Hair only grows .5 inches per month.
-stay away from heat appliances
-air dry as much as possible
-moisture, moisture, and more moisture
-sleep on satin pillow case or cover w/ satin/silk bonnet
-wide tooth comb
-no brushing
-stop wrapping the hair, that is just excessive combing and will cause more unessecary breakage.
*edit*
that is probably why her hair is breaking, you might want to lay off the pressing. If your applying heat to already damaged hair than it is now wonder it is breaking off. Just to be sure it is not shed hair look at the hair that is coming off. If you see a white/clearish bulb attatched to either end of the strand of hair than it is nothing to worry about, it is shed hair. A healthy head of hair will shed around a hundred hairs a day, even more in certain seasons of the year. If there is not bulb on the end than yes, it is just breakage.

I can help you but I need more information. Is this little girls hair in it's natural state, or is it chemcially straightened (or relaxed).
Excessive use of relaxers
Excessive use of heat styling
Not enough moisture (in the form of leave ins or deep conditioners)
...can all cause breakage. Unfortunately, many african americans (myself included) have all three of these issues.
When I was young I kept my braided in singles. It was expensive, but low maintenence and help my hair grow.
keep it washed, greased, and braided. Use only natural shampoos, other wise it won't repair itself. Keeping it washed and braided will allow the hair to repair itself and grow.
Don't put any heat or perms in her hair
trem her ends every 4-6 months
do a deep conditioner
use the Pantene relaxed and natureal shampoo
Use a leave in conditioner
pantene beautiful lengths..
you can get it anywhere
and try not to apply alot of heat to the hair that could be the problem!
good luck!

What's the best way to flat iron natural african american hair?
I've been wearing my hair naturally, it's very strong and healthy. Not brittle and dry. I want to know how to flat iron my hair without it being weighed down by grease or wax. What's the best way to flat iron natural african american hair?
You definitely want to use a heat protectant to keep your hair strong and healthy. You can also use a creme press in addiction to the heat protectant to help straighten and moisturize the hair. After washing, blow dry your hair with the comb attachment. Then take your flat iron and straighten in small sections. And I'd definitely opt for a flat iron with ceramic plats. I have one that I bought at Sally's for under $25 and it's nevery led me astray. You can also get an electrical hot comb at beauty supply stores. My preference was for the hot comb, but YMMV.What's the best way to flat iron natural african american hair?
Get a ceramic flat iron :
First wash your air and put them in rollers, roller set ur hair to get a more bouncy look. Dont put in setting lotion because it will make it hard.
Then dry ur hair underneath a hair dryer not a blow dryer.
Then take the rollers out and use the ceramic flat iron and flatten it and use grease since u have natural hair
just flat iron it like regular...and when you straighten it you need to use a parting comb...and put it rght below the straighter when you do...sry..I really dont know who to explain it
with the most awesome flat iron i have ever seen. It is sold on ebay but is a little costy. It is called Maxi-Glide

How to make African-American hair permanently straight?
I have African hair being that my parents are the Caribbean, I relax my hair every 2 months. But when I wash my hair days after the relaxer, my hair is still curly. My friend told me I could get my hair permanently straight. How do I do this? Are there products I can buy to do it?How to make African-American hair permanently straight?
well a relaxer is supposed to permanently straighten your hair. Your hair may get a little frizzy but that's it. I don't know what kind of relaxer you use maybe you don't leave it in long enough. I use silk elements lye relaxer and that is a good one. try this website for info on hair. k-i-s-s.bizHow to make African-American hair permanently straight?
there is no way to permanently straighten ';our'; hair. when you get a relaxer and a few weeks have gone by you automatically get ';new growth'; which is your natural hair growing in. As far as days after you get a perm you wash it and your hair is still curly to me it sounds like your hair is underprocessed.
There is no way to permanently straighten your hair. Either continue to get relaxers, or learn to love and appreciate your hair as it is. I'm sure your natural texture is beautiful. :)
you can get it chemically straightened at the hair dresses, it is the opposite to a perm and works really well.
Go to a beautician and ask about getting a reverse perm

I really like the whole emo scene hair and style but i'm not sure how to get my hair like that with my type of hair. What are some emo scene hairstyles for African American hair?
African American can get the same type of hair as anyone else, but it would be easier to get a perm first. You need to ask for short choppy layers with a side bangs. Then tease it like anyone else. What are some emo scene hairstyles for African American hair?
I have african american hair too. I also have ';scene hair'; style its fustrating to do.I have to straighten my hair. EVERY day. to keep hair standing up we have to use a lot of hair spray but if you use to much our hair will become to moist and curl. I suggest getting a chi. talk to a hair stylist
These might be of use if your hair is like this..

you could straighten your hair out if you have the afro/carrabian type of hair, or you could grow it a bit and go for this..

my friend flat irons his hair to get it super straight and then puts it over his face...
short choppy layers with side bangs (only if you have straight hair tho)
just make ur hair thin...
honestly those styles arent made for our hair type we cant layer our natural God given hair and wear it choppy and texture like theirs without walking around looking crazy but if that something you want, get a quick weave or sewn in weave but i wouldnt suggest this style with your natural hair.if you have questions feel free to email me!!
Just get a hot pink afro or something.

there are none give it up
IDK...maybe the emo scene isnt for u

What is the best product for straightning african american hair?
does anyone know any creme that can straighten an african americans hair? i mean besides useing a straightner? What is the best product for straightning african american hair?
haha no only thing i know of that really works
is a relaxer
a straighter
and or a hot comb(soooo out dated though)What is the best product for straightning african american hair?
For good African American straightening products, try an African American owned hair care line. Mineral Indulgence is a hair care line designed for Black women, I'm not sure whether they have a product that can completely straighten your hair without a flat iron, but you can email them personally and they may be able to customize a product for you, or perhaps you'll find a product on the site to your liking.
Their hot oil treatment suprisingly flatened out a lot of the naps in my little girl's hair...maybe they'll it will do the same for you.
try Walgreens... they have best products only for this...
usually anything with avocado or olive treatment.

What is the best hair straightner for african american hair?
I do get my hair relaxed but like every three months. If possible list hair straightners that are affordable, because i not spending $100 on a hair straightner. What is the best hair straightner for african american hair?
Fab-U-LaxWhat is the best hair straightner for african american hair?
I would recommend speding the money on a really good straightener because alot of cheaper ones do more damage to your hair.
If you go expensive go with a Sedu.
If you go cheap try something by Revlon.
For more advice go to www.folica.com. They sell hair straighteners and provide alot of customer feedback some including pictures and video from people who've used it their products. You'll definatly find something there.

What is the best clarifying shampoo that i can use on African American Hair?
I need to know because my scalp gets oily. What is the best clarifying shampoo that i can use on African American Hair?
I've seen people use chelating shampoos to clarify. Some top of the line brands are Joico, Mizani, L'anza etc. There is also Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo. It's also considered a chelating poo. However I use good ol' Suave Clarifying Shampoo. Some clarifying poos strip your hair of everything including moisture so be prepared to follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. What is the best clarifying shampoo that i can use on African American Hair?
Honey shampoo is shampoo long as you don't but the cheap kind. That will strip out everybodys hair. Just get some pantene or something
i use herbal essance they hydrolicious kind and its absolutely amazing.
my scalp is never oily unless i put oil in it.

What are the best non-perament cole with no ammonia that covers gray for african american hair?
I have long hair and going gray. I dont like permanent colors and would like to cover the gray. I recently went to a hair dresser and she told me that the color that I have in my hair was pernmanent. I have always colored my hair with a non- permanent color and she (the hair dresser) told me that it was permanent. What are the best non-perament cole with no ammonia that covers gray for african american hair?
You have to be very careful with any ';At-Home'; hair dyes. What you think you're purchasing, may not actually be what you believe it to be. I would highly recommend finding a salon that uses Paul Mitchell products or a Paul Mitchell salon and ask for a PM Shines to cover your gray. This product is excellent! Not only is it not a permanent hair color, but it has ingredients that condition the hair and leave it with an incredible shine! I recommend it to my friends and family. I'm not affiliate with them at all, I just know it works! :-) good luck.

How do I use coconut on relaxed African American hair?
My aunt is a beautician and suggested that I use coconut oil in my hair. I've been currently using hot 6 oil as a conditioner and moisturizer and my hair has grown a lot. I want it to continue growing and keeping it as healthy as possible (with it being relaxed). I only relax my hair every 4 months. How would I go about conditioning and shampooing my hair with coconut oil? Also what is a good moisturizer to use in btween washes?? How do I use coconut on relaxed African American hair?
u j wash n condition like normal. then when ur hair is dry, or near dry rub a dab about a quarter size in the palm of ur hand, then apply to ur hair like the way u would lotion to legs. ( avoid the scalp though, u don't want clogged pores, and many come in semi-solid form, but melt with body heat).

What's a good product to deep condition natural african american hair with?
I've been looking around on the internet doing research but I can't seem to find what would be a good product to use for deep conditioning. I was also curious to know if I could deep condition my hair while showering? Letting the hot steam and my body heat, cause the conditioner to penetrate.
I'd also like to know what's a good sulphate free shampoo.
I've had all natural hair for about a month after transitioning for two months. What's a good product to deep condition natural african american hair with?
Hi. Try Northwest Scents products. You can use the conditioner as a deep conditioner in the shower or out of the shower. The shampoo is sulfate free. The website is http://www.nwscents.comWhat's a good product to deep condition natural african american hair with?

The Curls By Nature is a deep conditioner you can leave in in the shower and it will accentuate your curls and soften your hair, they also have a sulfate Free shampoo. Actually, there is a sale going on right now where if you get a regimen with the Curls by nature deep conditioner you get free shipping.
Hope I helped. :)

What hair products are the best for african american hair?
I want to us organic root stimulator products, such as, the aloe shampoo and the mayonaise conditioner??
Any suggestions are welcomedWhat hair products are the best for african american hair?
Honestly, it all depends on your hair type. Different products work for different people. For example, I when I started using Motions products about 2 years ago, my best friend fell in love with how my hair looked. Of course, she decided to start using Motions, but it did NOT work as well on her hair. She eventually found a brand that works GREAT on her hair which is Optimum brand.
Personally, I say experiment. If someone says it helped them, it doesn't hurt to try it. If it doesn't work for you, then try another brand. It's almost trial and error, but I promise you will find a brand that works great for you. I will throw out a few that I've used and seen pretty good results:
-Motions -- one of my all time favorites
-Optimum/Optimum Care (all products)
-Isoplus (all products)
-Some Dark %26amp; Lovely products
-Infusium (only the leave-in conditioner has worked for me)
-Pantene line that's ';made for women of color'; (I think there is a name for that line, but I know the statement in quotes is on the bottle)
Hope this information helps. What hair products are the best for african american hair?
anything by lusters or bb is good. i use the oil sheen and conditioners on my daughter(who is half black) and they work great. im not sure where you are from but here in chicago there are alot of local brands that you could probably benefit from. it also depends on how youre trying t ostyle your hair. if you want to relax it or go natural or braid it or weave , you know. it all depends!
I like Lusters Pink and natural products like coconut oil and olive oil.

The best product that stops breakage on African American hair and allows it to grow?
That isnn't a shampoo or conditioner, something that you can leave in.The best product that stops breakage on African American hair and allows it to grow?
coconut oil, not da hair product but da actual natural oil from a coconut sold at natural foods and organic food stores
it helped me, a lil goes a long as- way, and smells good (depending on which type u get) cuz there's some wit no scents
and honey, like real honey from bees helps
but den again, it depends if ur natural or relaxed cuz i;m natural but i think that both or all natural stuff can work for relaxed hair
~good luck~The best product that stops breakage on African American hair and allows it to grow?
THEY R NOT CHEMICALS!
The one product that stops breakage on my hair is Aphogee's reconstructor... Works like a charm. It isn't a leave in, you do have to rinse it out... But that's the only thing I know of that actually works right when you use it. (Or at least it did for me.) But, with with other products, it's kind of just a process... It's slowly aids the other products you're using.
Hair breakage is usually from the weather, hairstyles you wear, and the products you use. I guarantee you that if you stop using heat on your hair for a month, wear it up and in a bun everyday, moisturize everyday, and tie it up at night. You'll see a significant decrease in breakage or no breakage at all.
USe the Smooth 'n shine line it comes with shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in things so it's pretty good.
i think you should personally use natural products. hair grease is not good at all. and if u perm your hair dont use a straigenter get it done professional. use coconut oil
well im from england but you should have it try IC or hair placenta they have a moose or leave in spray

Can African American hair relaxers work on people who are not African American?
I'm Mexican, Guatemalan, and Costa Rican, so I'm Hispanic.

of course!
why not?
Relaxing your hair isn't a way to fix the problem it will cause more damage trust me.I was relaxed for about 8 years. My hair won't grow pass my shoulders but when I stop relaxing my hair and cut off the relaxed ends it did. These sites can help you with your hair. You have to watch out for products that contain bad ingrediants. If you still want to experience having a relaxer ,their relaxer should work for you. They have different time limit for different hair textures when you have the relaxer in your hair.

Yes you can! I do! I'm Portuguese and have the same hair type. I put the relaxer in my hair and the whole time you need to leave it on you need to use a thin comb and keep combing it straight, then rinse and follow with the Herbal Essence Dangerously Straight conditioner! Don't wash your hair though! Wash it 48 hours after wards with the same Herbal Essence Shampoo followed by the conditioner!
sure, go for it.
Of course!!! My friend in high school permed/straightened her sister's hair with the stuff and it looked beautiful in the end. btw...she is Puerto Rican and has really really tight curly hair.

For african american hair. How often should you wash it after a retouch.?
I got my hair retouch last Friday and it was so silky and pretty last night I washed my hair and flat ironed and its not like it was. Should I have waited. I have coarse african american hair. And I thought it was nessecilary to wash weekly. For african american hair. How often should you wash it after a retouch.?
If you think your hair is dirty then wash it. I hate to hear people say that african american should only wash there hair every other week. I wash mine when I know I have filled it full of hair care products and it just doesn't great. What the problem was after you washed it you should have deep conditioned it...fresh relaxed hair can feel so dry after the first wash. Like I said when you feel it needs to be washed then go for it...For african american hair. How often should you wash it after a retouch.?
I am an african american and it is best to wash your hair every 2 weeks, but there is an exception if you have lots of dandruff in your hair you should go ahead and wash it.
You should wait next time. Black hair doesn't have the oils that white hair does. You can add oil in, but lucky you, your hair doesn't have to be washed as often and won't smell badly if you don't, unless!!!! you are a sports girl...Sweat stinks on all races! You lucky girl to have beautiful hair!!! Nana
Every other week I say thats the longest you should wait.
next time wait at least 2 weeks and if you have to wash it earlier than that try using curlers and an overhead blowdryer it'll help your hair keep the silkyness
well yea i just got my touch up today funny thing huh lol any way well i go to my stylist every 2 weeks but sometimes i cant make it so i do it my self like wash it,%26amp; another thing it could be what your useing i have the white/silk like hair too girl and i use/usd sunsilk the green but im going to use tresseme anti brakeage or rich mositure and i dont like wraping my hair cause it says going that way i hate that) anyway next i use tressme's heat tamer and i spray that in while it's wet and i let it air dry or you can use a low setting blow dry let it dry all the way and last but not lesat flat iron and style how you want it to be thats what i do and i get lovey hair

Why is African American hair so different from other races?
Like asians, hispanic, and europeans all have well, like (I'm not really sure what to call it) ';smoother'; ';less course hair';. Like I know Africa is hot and sunny, but so is like Italy and Spain/Mexico/Puerto Rico and Asia. How come African Americans hair is so different?
And don't say ';Well I knew a black lady who had......'; or ';This one white girl I knew had really course hair'; Because I know everyone is different, I'm just being general. I'm not being rasist or anything because I'm part black! I'm just curious. Why is African American hair so different from other races?
It's because african american hair doesn't produce as much oil as other races hair does. Why is African American hair so different from other races?
Each African-American hair shaft has a distinct oval - an almost flat shape. The outer cuticle scales protecting each hair are thinner in the area where the oval-shaped hair shaft is thinnest. As a result, these parts of the cuticles break easily, exposing the inner cortex of the hair. Once the more vunerable cortex is no longer protected then it also breaks easily. In addition, the chemical composition of a part of a cuticle, prone to microscopic cracks, cause African hair to have a weak mechanical resistance.
Asian hair contains a medulla filled with plenty of dark pigment, thought to contribute to their shine and high moisture content.
Caucasian hair is the thinnest out of the three hair-types.
Hope it helps:)
Some of the hottest places on earth are in Africa, along the equator. That is why our hair must be drier and coarser by nature. People refer to our ';coarse'; hair as if there is something wrong with hair being coarse. Every group of people has advantages and disadvantages to their hair textures. I enjoy straightening my hair, but I also wear kinky styles that embrace the ';coarse'; texture of my hair, like braids, kinky twists, etc. I also enjoy to curl the hair with rods. People with very straight hair can't do this :)

I just asked the same question. Im black and I wanna know too. Let me know if you find out!!

Motions leave my hair dry and just plain out BAD! so don't use that one. I'm trying out the Olive oil one because my friend by the way has long, thick, silky hair uses Olive oil.
I use Protectiv they sell it at Rite-Aide and it rocks. My hair has a tendency to break and after I started using this it doesn't break. And it's as silky and and straight as when I go to the hairdresser and spend $150. I have long hair, so I want to make sure it's protected.

What are the best hair care products for natural African American hair?
I have natural 'nappy' hair, no color, no relaxer. I want to know the best hair care products to promote growing, healthy natural hair.
My daughter is 3 years old, she also has natural hair. Unlike me she has very dry hair, dry scalp, and split ends. I would like to know what i should use on her hair and is safe for children.
please address both issues. What are the best hair care products for natural African American hair?
The term ';nappy'; is used by a lot of people with a lot of different hair types. If you are referring to what's normally considered type 4 hair which is kinky, coily, and usually very dry and lacks sheen, I would suggest the following:
1) Try to avoid using shampoos with sulfates. Type 4 hair is naturally very dry and lacks oil. Most commercial shampoos strip your hair of it's natural oils. Instead, co-wash your hair once or twice a week using a cheap conditioner like Suave Coconut. Only opt to wash your hair with a clairfying shampoo once or twice a month to avoid product build-up. You can also clarify your hair naturally with baking soda and water.
2) Deep condition your hair for at least 30 minutes every week with heat (meaning: cover your hair in a plastic bag and sit under a hooded dryer or wrap your head with a hot towel). I use Queen Helene Cholesterol Conditioner mixed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
3) Use a good moisturizing leave in conditioner such as Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner or Infusium 23.
4) Seal in moisture using a good sealant such as castor oil or pure shea butter.
5) Avoid applying direct heat to your hair.
6) Moisturize and seal your ends every night if you can.
7) Avoid combing and brushing your hair too much. I only style my hair with my fingers. I detangle my hair with a wide-tooth comb once or twice a week only when my hair is saturated with water and a good detangling conditioner like Pantene Pro-V.
I've been doing all of the above for the past 7 months. My hair is growing like crazy and my ends are no longer dry and brittle. Also, I do not suffer from dry scalp or split ends. I also have natural hair with no color or relaxer.
You should join a social network dedicated to hair for black woman such as www.hairlista.com or www.lhcf.com. I got all of my information from both of those places.

What is the best product for african american hair?
I wanted to know what is the best shampoo and conditioner for african american hair. Plz dont guess, tell me from personal experiences!! thnxWhat is the best product for african american hair?
Most ';african americans'; I see looks like they use wheel bearing grease from Auto Zone. It's nappy and greasy just like the person it's on. Just guessing.......What is the best product for african american hair?
I've been having a hard time with my hair coming out since I was a little girl. Even when I went to a salon once a week, I would still pop. I've been using Projective for a little over a year and this is the healthiest my hair has ever been. That's all I use on my and my daughter's hair. (Mine is relaxed and hers is natural). My sister is using it now too. A friend (who teaches cosmetology and does my hair on occasion) says that she likes Profectiv too. Walmart sells some of the products, as well as beauty supply stores.

My African American friend prefers Jhirmack Sahmpoo and Conditioner. She thinks they are working really well! You can try: http://www.keeplookingbusy.com/itmSearch鈥?/a>
It depends on what your hair needs.
For moisture, i would say Aussie Moist is the best
For protein, I love love love Frederick Fekkai
Shea Moisture also has some great products as well. HTHskin conditions

Ja-Nae's Hair Studio, One of the best if not the only hair salon for african american women in Marietta Ga and surrounding areas. A co-worker of mines introduced me to this salon. The prices are affordable and the stylists really knows what they are doing. I highly reccomend Stylist Ranae. Girlfrind is amazing. She brings back the life to anyones hair. Please check them out. You will not be dissappointed. Where else can you find a relaxer and style for 40 dollars. Most salons charge 55 and up and you sometimes don't get good results. Try these ladys out.Can someone help me find an african american hair salon in the atlanta georgia that practices healthy hair?

Is it true that washing relaxed African American hair once or twice a week, makes it grow longer?
Also does pure castor oil really help with growth and thicker hair?Is it true that washing relaxed African American hair once or twice a week, makes it grow longer?
No and sort of. I've heard castor oil helps with thickness, or so I've heard. How much of it is true - I don't know. I bought some jamaican black castor oil and only used it once because it causes too much build-up - a complete waste of my money.
Washing and conditioning your hair once a week or more will make it healthier but it won't effect hair growth from the scalp. Healthier hair means you'll probably retain length better so it can get longer, but retaining length and hair growth from the scalp are two completely different things. I wash my hair about 3-4 times a week. If you don't want to use shampoo, then you can use conditioner only to wash your hair, and then use it again to condition, and then use shampoo like once a week.

How do I take care of african american hair?
Im hispanic but I am about to have a mixed baby. Im having a little boy and I want him to have an afro when hes old enough I think that would be so cute. What shampoo and other products should I use to keep his hair managable? Im clueless about taking care of this texture of hair so please help. How do I take care of african american hair?
The best way to manage his hair is to get it braided. When getting his hair braided the stylist usually uses grease such as BLue Magic and Softee to make sure that the hair is mositurized and managable. With braided hair, the hair can be an afro with a good comb and wash after the braids get taken out (take them out in about 3 or 4 weeks) or and go back into the braided style for the hair can grow even longer. From experience with some family members with braided hair, it grows very fast so is it gets too long just take him to the barber for a trim.
WELL CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!!! =}How do I take care of african american hair?
You have to have a certain texture of hair to have an afro,
cleary you cant have silky thin straight blone hair and get an afro.
I recommend you have the baby first, therefor you know what kinda hair the baby will have (really curly, straight, thick) and go from there.
I really doubt if your baby boy could get a fro due to he is mixed.
He should have a good grade of hair. Thick and probably curly or straight.
the cantu shea butter cream at walmart works good,.and smells good! and they make baby hair products for kinky hair such as this one... http://www.curlmart.com/store/product.ph鈥?/a>
the key is keep the hair moisturized and dont use shampooo with sulfates in the ingredients!
I have mixed hair too and it took me YEARS.. like my WHOLE life so far to find out what works for my hair..and the flat iron isnt the solution..
um, well, any volumizing hair products should work...but while his hair is still damp, get a comb and comb out the tangles with his hair being gently pulled up, then let it dry and keep doing it!
just wait to see what type of hair he has. Just because he's going to be mixed don't mean he will have blk people hair. In the invent that he do you do nothing different than u would to your hair wash with shampoo air dry. Around 1 1/2 yrs old take to barber shop tell barber you want him to have an fro they'll know what to do.
Check out this website, it offers lots of help about how to take care of natural kinky hair. In general the most important thing to remember when taking care of kinky hair is keeping it moisturized. Stay away from shampoos with sulfates and any products with mineral oil, petroleum, and silicones. These will dry out his hair in the long run.
Good luck and Congrats in advance.
You shouldn't use too many products on a baby. Their scalps are very sensitive. Try something very light and stick to it. More than likely, your child will have very curly hair. The hair will be short as a baby. But to maintain an afro, you should keep it cut to manageable height.
Try some shea butter products to deep condition before washing, and don't forget to leave conditioner in for a few minutes while he plays in the water so that it has time to work.

How does a wet wrap on African American hair turn out?
The wet wrap seems really simple and looks like it be really healthy for your hair instead of blow drying and not as time consuming as roller-setting.
I want to know if it really comes out nice and straight.
Does anyone have any pictures? How does a wet wrap on African American hair turn out?
It may turn out bushy, or wavy. You have to apply heat to give it a slick straight look. You can wet your hair then wrap it to air dry. Hours later when it's dry apply a heat protector serum, then flat iron. Then continue wrapping it up every night. I use this http://www.sallybeauty.com/Heat-Protecto鈥?/a>

How do you grow long african american hair in just a few months?
the product that i am using now is carol's daughter lisa's hair elixerHow do you grow long african american hair in just a few months?
*Vitamin- Biotin, Chlorella, Vitamin E
*Exercise Daily - Helps increase blood circulation.
*Replacing Shampoo W/ Conditioner - Shampoos, even if it claims to be 'conditioning' will almost always dry out your hair to some extent, causing are already naturally-dry hair to be more prone to tangles and breakage. ';Co-wash'; (wash hair with shampoo) instead.
*Massaging Your Scalp - Also helps blood circulation, awakens your follicles.
*Carefully Combing/Detangling - Black hair is naturally VERY fragile, relaxed or not. Often running a comb through it can break it, damaging it, making it shorter. If you must detangle, detangle when your hair is wet, and soaked in conditioner. Comb from the ends to the root.
*Be careful as to not use too much product on your scalp. (Oiling, 'greasing' your scalp is not necessary, you hair will produce it's own natural oils) Too much product on the scalp can clog the pores.
*Sealing - Oil is a sealant (not necessarily a moisturizer), so after you condition, seal the moisture with something like Avocado Oil or Olive Oil. This will help the mositure last longer.
*Get trims once every 10-12 weeks if your hair is natural, every 6-8 weeks if your hair is relaxed.
*Read the ingredient list - ingredients such as petroleum jelly (vaseline, used in a lot of products in the Black market), alcohol (used in some shampoos and oil sheen, dires out hair) should be avoided.
*Wear protective styles often to retain your length, helping it stay long
- Wig/Half Wig (http://www.youtube.com/muffinismylovers has tutorials)
-Braids/Micros
-Quick Weave (as long as no glue touches your hair, [use seran wrap]!)
-Sew In Weave (make sure it is taken down professionally and a net is used)
- Phoney Ponytail baggy method (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5fXmaiDj鈥?/a>
*Great kitchen products to put in your hair

just dont go too overboard. go to the salon, get a nice treatment and relaxer in your hair and have it straightened, then ask for a kind of layered choppy bang type hairstyle, im not emo but im pretty sure its easy to ask for an edgy hair style and look the part with being too much, or a wanna be.How Can I Get Emo Hair With very Thick, Long, and African American Hair?

How can I make my hair more like African American Hair?
I have thin, straight hair, and I have always loved african american hair, because of the texture, and how it has so much more body. I would love to make my hair more like African Hair. Any ideas? How can I make my hair more like African American Hair?
Yes, you can either go for braiding - or get a very tight perm. Use lots of gel when you style it.How can I make my hair more like African American Hair?
Um...you can't change your hair texture or type no matter what you do too it. Yes, you could do temporary fixes like perming or braiding it for a period of time to appear like African American hair but again it will be temporary. Just find a hairstyle similar to African Americas and adapt it to your hair.
.
Yes, there are perms out there that can give you a really tight type of curl that is considered ';extra curly,'; if that is what you want. You could also consider putting a regular perm in your hair to give it body, texture and fullness. I knew someone once that had a perm done in a salon where the stylist left the perm on too long and it left the girl's hair ';kinky curly and very dry.'; I don't mean to be offensive to anyone at all by using this terminology I just used because people of every race seem to have someone who has this type of hair. But most people that have very dry, curly hair like it to look soft and smooth and many use straighteners to relax the texture. But if you are sure this is the look you want, be sure to condition your hair quite often because when hair is burned or if it is overprocessed from a perm, it can get brittle, break off, and look like straw. Personally, I like soft, healthy looking hair, regardless of whether it is straight or curly. Tightly braiding your hair for a few days can give your hair a thicker, wavier look, but as soon as you wash your hair, you are back where you started. The important thing is not to damage or burn your hair with chemicals. Your best bet is to use a professional stylist to get the desired result.
i know it could sound stupid but try braiding ur hair , the tighter the braids the better the result, and then unbraid them a couple of days later. it will add volume to your hair and make it look like afro hair... well only uness you wash them agan . I know that because thats what happened after i took my braids out. If you want a permanent look , then id advise you to go for a perm. there are many different types of perms , surely u will find something to suit you. Good Luck :)
Maybe blow dry with mousse. Or perhaps corn rows for a while. My hair got thicker when I put it in corn rows for two weeks while I was in Mexico :-)

this is a question that only your stylist can educate you on. your stylist knows your hair type. ask for a consultation so that he/she may be able to teach you how to use the tools and product that they do when you like the results they give. that is part of their job. give it a try. hope i was some help. i can't tell you exactly what to do when i can't see your hair.
maybe it has too much oil. i know when i get a doobie the only thing on it is a little oil sheen and its great! but if i put grease on my scalp a few days later it gets heavy. since i cut my hair, my stylist told me to us the Pink (brand) of glosser and just part your hair and spray on ROOTS ONLY. if you spray entire hair it will get heavy. Also when you wash your hair, set it in rollers, dry, spray scalp, wrap and drop, sorta like a home made doobie...and wrapp your hair every night with a silk/satin scarf or a wrap net w/ the velcro in front (that's what i use)...good luck hope i help!
Wash your hair until it's squeaky clean.
Blow-dry your hair and use a paddle brush for straightening.
Don't weigh-down your hair with oil and oil spray.skin conditions

How do I curl my hair, like the African American hair salon does my hair with the flat-irons?
I just want to learn how to curl my hair like my African American hair salon does my hair. I am African American. How do I curl my hair, like the African American hair salon does my hair with the flat-irons?
First things First...does your friend have a press or a perm? With a perm flat-ironing is much easier because you're hair is pretty much straightened already but with a press it's a little more work involved because you have to press your hair first before you flat iron, which means you have to be extra careful not to expose your hair to too much heat and create breakage and dryness.
You will need:
1) A Flat Iron
2) Sectioning Clips
3) Spritz (not hairspray or oil-sheen) or Anti-Frizz Product
4) Tail Comb
5) Blow Dryer
1. Wash Hair (optional: While hair is wet you use a frizz control product)
2. Blow dry hair until hair is 100% dry. You are just removing the moisture, so there is no need to straighten your hair at this point. That comes later. (optional: if you have a seated dryer at home you can braid hair into several braids and sit under the dryer until almost dry. At this point you can use the hair dryer to avoid using too much heat directly onto your hair)
Now you're ready to flat-iron. Be careful, this tool gets very hot!
1. Draw thin sections of hair through flat iron slowly, but keep the iron moving. Comb hair smooth after each draw through of the iron. Continue until all of your hair has been straightened. On a lower heat setting you can back through your hair and with the same sweeping motion you can turn the iron under towards the ends of your hair to get a curl, making a u shape with the ends of your hair. You can use hairspray to finish the style when you're done.
You might want to practice using your flat iron while it is cold until you get used to the feel and weight of the tool.
There are many options for flat irons, do your research to find which iron is the best for you. Ceramics have the latest technology. How do I curl my hair, like the African American hair salon does my hair with the flat-irons?
Use a curling iron. Dry your hair with gel in it, then mist with a little oil sheen and curl.
be very careful you can burn your scalp and ruin your hair.

What are some good hair products that help african american hair grow?
From shampoo's to oils anything will help me.What are some good hair products that help african american hair grow?
Shampoo doesn't grow the hair, but there are shampoos out there that won't strip the hair of moisture, these are sulfate free and preferably natural shampoos. I'm a conditioner addict, it moisturizes my hair and keeps it from breaking, protein conditioners add strength... Oils, least favorite are mineral oil and anything containing them that are meant to stay in the hair and on the scalp. Natural oils like coconut oil, jojoba, almond, olive, shea butter... these oils hold in moisture while conditioning the skin and hair and essential oils like rosemary, peppermint, and emu are helpful in getting the hair to grow faster by stimulating the scalp and hair follicles (I know this to be fact, my hair is almost to my waist, just below mid back, after in 2006 it was only two inches long and having to have it cut after a relaxer mishap in 2007) What I do is mix a few drops of essential oil in a milder oil like almond or walnut and apply it to my scalp everyday. I usually mix my own hair care products because commercial ones are full of chemicals and carcinogens and don't really do what they claim to do. But out of my favorite store brought products I have to say BB hair lotion, BB hair growth oil and the oil in the bottle with the nozzle, Africa's Best Herbal Oil, Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea reconstructor, WGO, MTG, and a few other oils like Hollywood Beauty Carrot Oil...What are some good hair products that help african american hair grow?
there really is nothing that can make you hair grow, for ';our'; type of hair its just maintenance. conditioning your hair weekly and moisturizing it daily also stetching relaxers will help you maintain more length and strength

How do you make african american hair bouncey and soft and to smell great!?
Please i really want to know (my hair does not smell bad i just asked) i want my hair to be bouncey and soft please can some on suggest a shampoo and condidtioner or a hair technqiue or something! How do you make african american hair bouncey and soft and to smell great!?
I've read some of the answers and for the most part they are on point. There is an issue with using too many products and over doing it. I use mainly Dr. Miracle products and this helped tame my very course hair. I can tell you my routine to give you an idea of how I do things.
Once a week I wash my hair with Dr. Miracle's shampoo and conditioners. I wash twice and the third time I wash and let it sit in my hair for about 3-5 minutes. (this allows it to condition). After I rinse (because I had damaged hair-I no longer have to do this step) I used Hair Damage Control. You put this in your hair let it sit for another 5 minutes and then rinse.
When I dry my hair I use Dr. Miracle's foam and wrap my hair. Be sure to use wrapping paper it allows it to lie down perfectly. I purchased a dryer (like $35) and sit under the dryer for 20-30minutes. When it's done drying, I don't put any product in it. Instead I flat iron with a ceramic flat iron. Once I've straightened my hair I use Dr. Miracle's Grow Oil (it's like a hot oil treatment) I dab it all over my head an focus on areas I want to strengthen or grown. I then wrap my hair again this time with a brush (the same direction I wrapped before) and I use saran wrap to hold it in place. The saran wrap is tight on my head and all of my hair is covered. I then sit under the dryer again for 10-15 minutes. (this is a silk wrap it makes your hair seem a lot more bouncy and silky.)
I then unwrap it and it's all done. It takes about 2 hours I do it every Saturday morning. For a nice smell I spray my hair will Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla leave in conditioner. It gives my hair I nice vanilla smell while conditioning. I only use this about 2/3 times a week and only a couple of sprays I dont pour it on my head. I wrap my hair every night and again 2/3 times a week use a little Dr Miracle's Grow Oil before bed. You can feel it working...I'm not trying to sound like a commercial but you can.
One of my friends put me on to this product and after years of damaged hair in poor condition I finally found something that works. This is the only thing that works for me. I hope his helps. Good Luck and email me if you need any more suggestions! How do you make african american hair bouncey and soft and to smell great!?
If your hair is natural (without a relaxer) then it will never be bouncy like all other hair types. However, you can make it soft, smell good, and it will be at its healthies point.
If you have a relaxer it will be difficult because the relaxer damages the hair and it becomes limp. It may bounce after you first blow dry it, but once you encounter any kind of humidity or put more products on it, it will all go away. If you really want it to do what other hair types do (bounce) then I suggest you buy a weave.
The problem with not only African Americans but with people in general is that they use to much product, and sometimes the wrong product.
To make it simple choose a shampoo/conditioner that is specific to your needs/wants. Example they have volumizing, straitening, shine enhansers, etc. Choose the one you want.
Also, you want to use products that are light so they won't weigh your hair down.
These products will help you achieve bouncy, and shiny hair for roller sets, wraps, and any heat styling.
1. Infusium leave-in conditioner that is heat protectant, or something similar. Make sure it is a liquid leave-in and not a cream/lotion.
2. Use a foam wrap lotion to wrap hair or set hair. I love Motions.
3. To moisturize hair and add shine use a light oil like Mink Oil Sheens, and I love Kemi Oyl.
i just used this product today n i love it...i never had a product to make me hair this bouncy and soft as it is...its sunsilk the one in the yellow bottle it the best...i washed my hair and blow dried it really good.. it shouldnt matter what blow dryer u use as long as u kno what ur doing...i used the one with a comb in it..but sunsilk it good
well, im guessing that your hair is relaxed like mine. what makes my hair nice and bouncy is to put it on rollers with a foaming setting creme by Motions. keep it in overnigth and let it air dry and it comes out so nice and bouncy and curly!
Unicure has a really nice setting lotion too... you can buy soft roller so you dont have a hard time sleeping with them in.
Wella High Hair Bouncy Dip makews your hair, well bouncy!
after washing your hair, while still damp, apply a leav in conditioner and put hour hair on big rollers (detangle your hair first) and let it sit for 20 minutes. gently rinse hair in luke warm water then style as usual.
to make your hair smell nice use Garnier fructis or herbal essences products.
Charles Worthington 'Head in the Clouds' Hair Perfume. This product is perfect for days when you just dont have the time to wash your hair. Only a few sprays of this and your hair not only smells gorgeous again but all other smells are eliminated. Its really great!
Well, some people have that kind of stiff hair that seems like you cant do anything with it.
Grow your hair longer, that sometimes helps alot, get a shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.
Try leave in conditioners, or deep conditioners.
Wash your hair everyday, and thats pretty much what you can do with it, im sorry!

What are some things I can do to make my african american hair grow?
I used to straighten my hair all the time up until about 4 months ago. Now instead of straightening my hair all the time, I've resorted to ';scrunching'; it with Suave mousse and moisterizer. What can I do different to make it grow? What are some things I can do to make my african american hair grow?
Stop messing with your hair. Pick a style and stick with it for a while. That's what I'm doing. My braids have been up two months and I've been wearing sew-ins over them. The more you mess with your hair, the more hair you shed.
It seems like our hair grows slow, but really, we are just shedding at almost the same rate it is growing. Why do you think people with dreads seems to have fast growing hair (or however you say it)? They keep their hair in that style and don't #*%^ with it!
If you add heat to your hair, do it sparingly. Too much heat can damage.
Personally, I oil my hair once a week. And I wash every 2 weeks. Make sure you deep condition after you wash. Leave the conditioner in for like 15 minutes.
Remember, the more you mess with your hair, the more hair you shed. So pick a style, and keep it up for a while. What are some things I can do to make my african american hair grow?
Definately check out http://www.urbansalonnetwork.com ! Have you tried braiding to give it a rest? Not too tight though. Also conditioning the hair is key. Pay attention to your diet and be sure to drink lots of water. Exercise regularly!
My blog has alot about growing hair and keeping it strong it may be helpful :) http://thelonghairdiaries.blogspot.com/

Why don't African American hair grow at the rate of a Caucasians?
It seems as if black people's hair can't grow like white people..Why is that? Caucasians seem to have faster growth and can keep long hair length, while it seems completely opposite with black people. Why don't African American hair grow at the rate of a Caucasians?
could be the breakage if you process your hair a lot. It also harder to see the growth of curly hair. I mean if you stretched out the curl (naturally) you will most likely see almost the same resultsWhy don't African American hair grow at the rate of a Caucasians?
it is what it is.
I've always wondered that!
Most African Americans I've met have extremly naturally curly hair. I think curly hair grows slower than straight or wavy hair.
Well we do things that damage our hair. Most African Americans use chemicals such as relaxers or things that will take out our hair such as braids and things. African Americans also have a kinky curl when were first born (meaning that we dont start off with straight and long hair). So we have to hot comb and relax our hair to get a straight result.
I am 25% native american, and 75% african american and because of this my hair grows a little bit faster and longer. but i do understand how you feel. everyones hair is different. black hair is thicker, darker and doesnt seem to grow as long and honestly im not sure why. most african american women wish their hair was longer, straighter and easier to work with, but there are things you can try. buy a ';black hair magazine'; and see what products are there. i garuntee there will be something that is right for you and your specific problems.
african ethnic hair does grow but it's just the bad habits done to maintain our hair makes it seem like it isn't.
1. people try to use relaxers to make their hair bone straight. that's not a the purpose of a relaxer. it's in the term- you are 'relaxing' the curl so it's easier to straighten. alot of hair is over processed and it breaks off everywhere.
2. too much styling oil is put in our hair. your hair has natural oils that moisturize the hair. too much oil makes the hair stiff and immobile (not so attractive). and when you put heat styling upon oily hair, you are basically burning your hair off. a good shampoo and conditioner with low pH balance will keep your hair moisturized so no ';moistruizing oil'; is needed. use shine serums and hair polishers instead. another thing, nobody should wait two weeks until washing your hair. it's gross and the hair is too oily by then. wash the hair once a week, at most twice a week .you need the natural oils at your roots. the oil build up in your scalp isn't good for growth.
3. all heat styling is bad, but the healthiest is going under a hooded dryer with rollers. invest in good styling tools like a good styling iron. (solia is pretty good styling iron). try to find ways to style your hair without heat too. it is possible to look nice without using heat on your hair. just take a weekend when you wash your hair and experiment. how people outside our race do you know spend 3 plus hours a week styling their hair with some much heat? i don't know that many, so relax and give your hair a breather.
4. a healthy diet rich in good fats and protein preps the hair for good growth. if our diet is poor so will be our hair. exercise too! increased blood circulation to the scalp helps the hair grow. it's all internal :)
i'm african american and my hair grows quite fast partially because of genetics and also because of the ';regimen'; i described above. we are at no disadvantage for great hair we just have to be sensible about what we do.
here are some /regular/ethnic hair care lines you can consider too:
dr. miracles(temple and nape grow is awesome)
motions (lavish shampoo and setting foam is wonderful )
nexxus ( the Keraphix conditioner is amazing!)
IC thermal hair straigtening and shine serum (good if you flat iron, set, blow dry the hair)
I think because their hair is kind of Afro-ish and Curly that why they grow out slower then straight blone hair. But other than that, its just how we born differrent, that's make us unique. [=
Well that's not always the case. Genetics also has something to do with it, but due to the lack of the scalp being moist, the hair breaks off easier and it may take awhile for the hair to grow. But if moist, the hair could actually grow pretty quickly.
But another reason could contribute to why black females have shorter hair sometimes, is because of the chemicals used to make the hair straight. Putting in too many chemicals could make the hair fall out or if a perm is not taken care of, it could cause permenant hair loss.
But I know quite a bit of people with really long hair and they are black. So what you say is not entirely true. Just sometimes genetics, hair textures, and treaments, could determine the many different lengths of hair in appearance. I have really long hair, although I've been growing it for 6 years so...
why does it matter it is just the way it is
It probably does grow just as fast. But, since it is curly, the length curls up on itself, and just doesn't look as long. The other factor is that the ends of African American hair are very prone to breakage due to a lack of natural oils. The scalp produces oil to help protect hair. In straight hair, the oil can easily work its way down to the tips of the hair to protect the ends, and hair brushing helps this process. For African American hair, the hair is so extremely curly that the oil can't make it very far down the hair shaft, and the ends end up unprotected and brittle, and can easily break. Also, African Americans tend to use harsher styling chemicals than whites do, making the breakage worse. In order to grow their hair, African Americans have to be very careful about conditioning in order to keep the ends strong.
Their hair is too dry to grow like a Caucasian's, and it will always be like that. It's just the way they were born.

I have african american hair. Is there a safe way to bleach it, without it falling out or something?
I've never bleached it but i had a relaxer about 3 months agoI have african american hair. Is there a safe way to bleach it, without it falling out or something?
eek! african american hair bleached. not a good idea. not attractive. keep it your natural color, it's much nicer. or you add caramel highlights to it.I have african american hair. Is there a safe way to bleach it, without it falling out or something?
There is a way. I had a friend who bleached just some of her front and I'm pretty sure she did it herself. There's probably something in the hair isle at the store. Go and check it out or go to a salon that advertises being able to handle different hair textures.
You're black and you want blonde hair?
The black ops division of the Fashion Police has been contacted. Expect your neighborhood friendly strike team to burst into your home any minute now and forcibly reprogram you into having better taste.
I would recommend using Peroxide. It is the safest way to do it. Apply generous amounts for a few days and you should be ok.
No. You already have a relaxer. If you double process your hair that is going to make you more prone to breakage.
Bleaching your hair will turn it from brownish black to almost white. Will that look good with your complexion?
There are better, less expensive ways of making yourself look like a freak. Why not just shave it all off?
Your hair is fine. Leave it.
What the f***ck!

How to grow long African American hair?
Okay ladies with ethnic hair... How to you grow your hair long and healthy? What do you do to your hair after you wash it? (brands please) and how do you style it to keep it straight besides chemical relaxers? And how do you keep your ends moisturized? How to grow long African American hair?
Okay, lemme first say that my hair is natural.. But, I think this will work for any type of African American hair. My mom is the one who knows most of the ways to grow it out.. But, she uses me as a guinea pig lol, so I know a bit.
First, you should eat right. For example, a big mac isn't going to do a lot of good to someone's hair lol. (not saying you would eat something like that lol) :) I ate apples and almond butter for two weeks straight and my hair grew like weeds. Haha! You should eat natural and organic foods, lots of fruits and veggies.. Yeah..
Now.. Black hair needs oils! I really don't know all of them, but this girl names some good ones (shimahair.com).. Coconut oil, sesame seed oil, peppermint oil i think... Yeah.. haha.
And my hair.. I have it in braids, and they protect the ends (important to growth!) and keep it safe and growing! My mama feeds me and gives me the oils to put in my hair, lol... Umm.. after it's washed, it gets oiled and put back into braids.. I don't really straighten it, because I did once (flat iron with wax and/or vaseline), and it was okay, but the heat did not do it well... That is all I will say about that.. haha.
Sorry, if my answer wasn't clear enough! Hope I helped even a little bit! =]How to grow long African American hair?
Hey girl. I have no perm. I just do protein treatments (aphogee) sometimes like every couple of months and use my kiyoseki when i want it straight. It is a really good flat iron, have been using it for over a year now, you should try it. I just started using mane n tail conditioner (i love it!!) and I use paul mitchells tea tree shampoo (Sallys). Try not to use too many products on your hair. The protein will strengthen my hair and seriously fix your ends. I never cut my ends, just keep them moisturized with a good conditioner. If it is damaged then cut it off but other then that leave it alone. Good Luck!
i just keep up with it. its always changing so i couldn't tell you my routine. but:

Would bleaching african american hair make it fall out?
I would like to put some blonde in my hair, but from what I've heard that it can make it fall out.I have african american hair and the last time I got a relaxer was over a year ago.I am also planning on getting it professionally done.
If it wont make it fall out,how can I make my hair as healthy as can be before I get it done?
Thanks :DWould bleaching african american hair make it fall out?
No necessarily, but it's not really good for your hair especially sense you have a perm. My beautician recommends that African American women who already get relaxers not get high lights because it's too many chemicals and it dries out your hair. Everyone I have ever know ended up having to cut their hair down the road after getting highlights because their hair started breaking off and the ends started splitting. It's pretty for the moment but you will find it's not worth it.Would bleaching african american hair make it fall out?
I'm not saying this will happen to you, but I used to work with a girl who dyed her hair blonde and her hair fell out to about 1-2 inches long and her blonde started turning green. It was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen. It also makes your hair very dry. Blacks have very fragile hair so you have to be careful when putting so many chemicals in it. Ask your hairstylist for advice and if s/he recommends it for your hair.
I would say not to use chemicals on your hair. Why don't you go for some home remedies. Egg whites, lemon juice, oil massages, reducing stress and diet changes can reduce hair fall and make it healthier. You can find more cheap, effective and natural home remedies for hair loss as well as for healthy hair at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/hairfall.htm鈥?/a>
try nappturality.com for more information. There are a lot of members who've tried different things.
it's true that our hair is dry and most types of processing dry the hair even more making it more breakable than it already is.
A good moisturizing regimen though, will give you gthe flexibility to do things like color or bleach and still keep your hair's health and length.

Will it work and how quick will it take to grow like 1 extra inch of hair. What is the best hair growth product for African American hair?
Hello girlie.I'm an Ethiopian-American and I have researched all the boards on growing AA hair and this is what works for me and most:
1. The biggest: DO NOT USE HEAT OR CHEMICALS (Perm, Relaxer, Texturizer, etc.) FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS
Follow all these steps and you will see hair growth:
1) Exercise and eat healthy/ drink lots of water
2) Take the supplement/vitamin BIOTIN, it promotes healthy hair, skin, nails and metabolism. I recommend this as an addition to all the other steps, not the Sole fix. It can be found at almost every drugstore:
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_p鈥?/a>
3) Wash your hair once a week with your favorite shampoo and conditioner. I recommend garnier length and strength shampoo:
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_p鈥?/a>
And NEXXUS conditioner:
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_p鈥?/a>
(It's cheaper when you buy it at wholesale, COSTCO, Sam's Club, etc.)
4) Oil your hair once a week (usually the day futherest from your weekly wash ex. wash Saturday, oil Wednesday) You can use avocado oil, olive oil or coconut oil (my favorite.)
5) Deep condition once a week when extremely dry or twice a month regularly
My fave deep conditioner is Organic Root Stimulator's Replinishing Pack. AMAZING! You just apply and comb through hair and put on a shower cap for 45 minutes to an hour and your hair will feel so soft and moisturized! Once again, you can find it any any drug store:
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_p鈥?/a>
6) THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT:
TRIM EVERY 5-8 WEEKS. If you think that your stylist is scissor-happy, make a family member who knows how to cut hair trim your hair to ensure that they will just trim your hair and not cut it. (Trust me I have had bad experiences with hair cutters in the salon.) This is important because it cuts of the dead ends/ split ends.
7) Remember, you won't see a dramatic change until 2-3 months. Hair grows 1/2-1 inch every month depending on its health.
THE KEY TO GROWING AA HAIR IS MOISTURE, MOISTURE, MOISTURE, STRENGTH AND STAYING AWAY FROM HEAT/CHEMICALS
Good luck and HAPPY GROWING!What is the best hair growth product for African American hair?

What is a good water based moisterizer for African American hair?
I am tired of petroleum ingredient moisturizers. I grew up by learning that the hair needs. Research says different. I want my hair to grow. I want to try Carol's daughter's Hair Butter? Im skeptical because of the scent that everybody loves or complains about. I don't know if it will work with my hair. What is a good water based moisterizer for African American hair?
Hey, yeah petroleum and mineral oil is not good for our hair. I was raised thinking it would ';moisturize'; my scalp but I never understood as a kid why I was putting grease in my hair while my white friends were taking it out of theirs. lol. I heard it blocks pores. You can find a full list of harmful ingredients at this site- biracialhair.org. She has a full glossary. There are a lot of nasty ingredients out there, most of them in mainstream products. Carol's Daughter is good, you have to try it for yourself though as everyone's hair is different.
I like:
Pantene Relaxed and Natural for detangling
I've heard good things about:
Mixed Chicks, blended beauty, carol's daughter, kinky coily knot today, kinky coily curling custard, jessicurl, karen body beautiful, deva care
In mainstream stores:
VO5, Pantene, creme of Nature, sauve, herbal essences.

#1: Braid your hair and leave it in for a couple days (the more the better)

How to get silky and managable hair from a flat iron for African-American hair?
I have African-American hair and when i flat iron my hair it doesnt really look silky at all. Should i use a hot comb instead or is there some kind of hair product i should apply to hair before flat ironing it so it would come out silky straight ? Also, does anyone know any hair vitamins online that can help my hair grow ?How to get silky and managable hair from a flat iron for African-American hair?
It's best if you use a flat iron with ceramic plates instead of metal. Metal cooks the hair from the outside in making it dry, brittle and damaged. Ceramic does the opposite. Also, I use Patene for women of color, shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, and hair mask. It works great. How to get silky and managable hair from a flat iron for African-American hair?
Im sorry. The composition of your races hair won't get really straight unless you have the best straightener out there. Sorry, try a perm.
Bouncy/Full Hair (body %26amp; fullness)
For those of you with fine or thin hair, roller sets are your answer!! Whereas blowdrying and flat ironing can often times lead you with flat, dry hair, roller sets are just the opposite.
Here's why: when you roller set, you're setting rollers at different positions all over your hair directly from the scalp. This is causing volume.
Instead of your hair being blow straight down like a blow dryer, your hair dries somewhat going ';out.'; A longer lasting effect than flipping your head over and swinging your hair around! (I wouldn't recommend that!)
Now for those of you who already have plenty of volume and don't consider this a benefit of roller setting - don't fear! You have options, too.
Simply wrap your hair and place saran wrap around it. Go back under the dryer for 10-15 minutes. Voila. Silky smooth hair with less volume. Less Heat
Growing long hair fast take a huge commitment. Here are a few quick tips for the fastest route to long hair:
Get a good trim to start.
Wear your hair up every single day.
Don't use ANY heat.
Moisturize hair and ends daily.
Wash hair every 4 days to every 7 days.
Use the right hair products that contribute to hair growth.
Take a vitamin that will enable your hair to reach its hair growth potential.
Deep condition weekly.
Use a strengthening protein conditioner at least once a month.
Keep hair moisturized and soft.
Be extra, extra gentle when combing and styling. Use a good seamless comb that won't snag your hair.
Don't manipulate the hair much, put it up and leave it alone.
In conclusion to grow long hair fast, you need to get your hair to its optimal growth rate if it isn't there already. Next, you need to focus on retaining length by eliminating damage and damage repair.

Does curl activator work on natural african american hair?
i have thick african american hair and i wanted to know if curl activator will make my hair curly.Does curl activator work on natural african american hair?
Find some kind of oil moisturizer. It will curl, and it wont be dry. Like pink protection, use this and let it dry.Does curl activator work on natural african american hair?
sometimes it will but gel works best- yeah, i know, it'll just be sticky and flaky but it really depends on the brand.
I believe you would need to get a texturizer first and then use the curl activator unless you have the hair texture that most people call good hair. Then yeah you can use the curl activator. Truthfully the curl activator was made for the Jerry Curl/Wave Nouvea Era. You really suppose to rod your hair and then add the curl activator.
