my hair is breaking really badly. everytime i wash it and comb it, a chunk comes out. I am black and need to know what I can use to get my hair back and keep it healthyAfrican American Hair?
If you are using chemicals (relaxers) on your hair the worst thing that you can do is try to treat your condition with more chemicals. Someone suggested Dr. Miracles which is actually chemical based. To condition and restructure your hair regardless to whether it is natural or relaxed, you need to use a product with ingredients that can actually penetrate the hair shaft and condition it from within. Chemical based products work very much like a smoke and mirror trick. They coat the hair cuticles with a grease film ( such as mineral oil or petroletum) that makes the user believe that they have solved the problem. The damage however is still on the inside and hair cannot strengthen its bonds without the protein, vitamins and minerals that are needed to keep your hair healthy and strong. If your hair is coming out in chunks, it can be due to a unknown health condition, chemical residue, inferior product use or even stress. The breaking of hair is different in that the strands have for some reason become weakened, and brittle due to inferior product use, heat appliances, strain or some form of abuse.
Also please note that a healthy scalp is conducive to healthy hair. This means that you must first make sure that you are not suffering from a health condition on the inside so that your scalp can be healthy enough to produce healthy hair for the outside.
African Americans dont realize that many of the products that we use on our hair are causing more of a problem than a solution. Only use products that contain ALL natural ingredients and your hair will be healthy again in no time. I use Mineral Indulgence product line for my hair and it is so long and thick that people often mistaken it for a weave. You can go to their website and read the blog on what chemicals do to your hair at http://mineralindulgence.com/African American Hair?
You need to keep your hair oiled so it isn't dry. When you wash it use a protein treatment. That goes on your hair then u sit under the dryer and it becomes really hard. Then you wash it out. This will help to keep your hair strong and healthy. Also try Dr. Miracles, I heard that it works great. Keep the chemicals out of your hair and don't keep brushing and combing it. Good luck.
Well if you use a perm sometimes that happens
it depends on the texture of ur hair too
do you have like kinky hair or thin hair
either way if you are perming it then you should give it a break like stop for a long time and let it grow out
or you can cut it or you can go to a hairsalon or wherever for a deep conditioning
Discontinue washing with shampoo for a while. Use only conditioner when washing. Also, use coconut, or olive oil, products. Drink lots of water to keep hydrated.
Your going to have trim off all of the damaged and broken ends and start fresh.
If have a chemical relaxer on your hair, which already drys afro hair out then you need to shampoo and deep condition with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Alternate weekly between a protein and a moisturizing conditioner, protein treatments help repair, strenghten, and fix damaged hair. Moisturizing conditioners add the needed moisture to black hair.
Air dry your hair as often as possible to lock in moisture and prevent breakage, then apply a light scalp oil to your scalp and a moisturizer to your strands. On the days your not washing either spray with a light leave in conditioner every other day or apply a light moisturizer every day.
Try not to comb so often also, that aids in the snapping of hair.
you should also wear your hair in protective styles, any style that needs little to no combing or brushing and keeps the ends of your hair off of your clothes.
You don't have to clip your ends every month if its healthy, that will just make your shorter, hair only grows about 1/2 an inch per month, and if you cut it every month then it results in negative hair growth. Your hair will be shoulder length forever. If you keep up with your hair and get it healthy you only have to cut it once every 3 months, sometimes i only cut twice a year, and my hair is just fine.
Stay away from heat accessories as well; blow-dryers, flat-irons, and curlers really suck up the moisture in black hair which is natural already dry. Try not to do to many back to back protein treatments because that can actually break the hair off. Once your hair becomes healthy again you can cut back on the protein treatments, probably once every 2 months or once a month depending on your hair. Otherwise the hair becomes hard and begins to break off because of the protein overload. Taking a multi-vitamin and eating a balanced diet will do wonders for your hair also.
