How can I straighten my African-American hair without relaxing?

School is starting soon and I want to wear my hair down. And I don't want to go to the salon. But, I have dry hair, and I have a flat iron but when I try to straighten it, it's still dry. Also give me some tips on how to do it. And, if I do relax it how to I keep it straight? How can I straighten my African-American hair without relaxing?
its sounds like your hair is not in the best condition and that if you want to keep it straight you should go to the salon because otherwise you will be doing MAJOR damage to your already dry hair...if you cant go to the salon then try to find an alternative to wearing your hair down..., you really need a series of aphogee treatments and deep conditioners to bring your hair to a place where you can relax it. If you relax your hair get it doen PROFESSIONALLY... and get a wash and set every 1-2 weeks to keep it straight and in good condition then every 6-8 weeks get a touch up and a trim and your hair will be fine. If you want to press it get that down ever 1-2 weeks and get a trim and deep conditioner and aphogee every 6 weeksHow can I straighten my African-American hair without relaxing?
use Redken Smoothing shampoo for sleek smooth hair.rub in some of the cream and heat protectant, then blow-dry as straight as possible.sinc blow-drying makes hair poof and frizz, straighten your hair with a professional iron, like a Sedu.trust me the Sedu works for ALL types of hair.when your done, smooth in a drop ofhair serum to make your hair shiny and soft:)
Go to youtube.com type in 'wehairu' (no spaces). This is a new item that will be hitting the market any day now. It should be available for purchase through www.treasuredlocks.com. It works marvelously. I know the CEO of the company and he is awesome--knows a lot about hair and has designed this to be healthy for hair too. This product was initially intended for kinky African American hair but works very well on normal types of hair too.
sista i got you!

what i would suggest is going to the salon ; and let your stylist fix it up for you.

after she has or while she is doing your hair ask her questions on how to keep your hair healthy, shraight, and manageable.

now what i do is get my hair pressed which usually keeps it shraight itself. but ask your stylist what would be the best for your hair!

hope this helps!
hmm....grl u needa relaxer tho dont leave it in too long...ur hair will fall out

  • What are some homemade remedies that will help my african american hair grow and reduce damage and breakage?

I'm trying to get my hair to grow and I need some inexpensive remedies, tips, or whatever you can offer to help my hair grow....What are some homemade remedies that will help my african american hair grow and reduce damage and breakage?
I can tell you this much, TRY NOT TO BRUSH YOUR HAIR. When u brush your hair as an African American you are pulling out your hair and causing breakage at the end. I know! I really don't know about any home remedies. I'm going natural. Keep it moisturized. THE BEST I CAN TELL U IS TO SLEEP WITH YOUR HAIR WRAPPED UP. You might don't notice it, but when you sleep with your hair not ';sheltered (wrapped/covered)'; at night it rubs up against the covers and pillow case when you toss and turn and that causes it to break. It's true. What are some homemade remedies that will help my african american hair grow and reduce damage and breakage?
Brush your hair gently with preferably wooden brushes to increase hair growth. Never brush the hair when it is wet. If one wants to grow hair, trim the hair once every month, just the tips will do. Try http://solutionsforhairgrowth.blogspot.c鈥?/a> for more details.
Coconut oil is great for protecting the protien in you hair, less breakage = longer hair! also my blog has alot about growing hair long and keeping it strong, it might be helpful http://thelonghairdiaries.blogspot.com/ :)
Wash every 2-3 days instead of everyday. Don't use conditioner. Your hair needs its' natural oils. Brush hair 2 or 3 times a day.
    Definately check out http://www.urbansalonnetwork.com !

What is the best moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for African American hair?

My hair is very dry and very damaged.

I have tried stuff like Pantene and it doesn't work well on my hair. What is the best moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for African American hair?
Try the Organic Root Stimulator line of hair products. Believe me, this line is awesome. The products keep your hair follicles moisturized and repair damage. For me, I noticed new growth in about 3 weeks. I'm serious. You could go toWhat is the best moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for African American hair?
I just recently started using Wen hair products. They make a conditioning cleanser, so it's like the shampoo and conditioner in one, but it doesn't lather up like shampoo. You just put it on your hair in and leave in for at least 5 minutes and rinse out, then you put some in as a leave-in conditioner. It leaves my hair feeling amazing; I have very think coarse relaxed hair.

I also used to use Pantene, but it's not supposed to be healthy for your hair because it coats it and can cause it to break off (I had a huge problem with my hair shedding for years and couldn't figure out why).
it's a bit xpensive but VERY WORTH IT..go to mixedchicks.com you can c their products and request a sample

What are the best products to use on natural African American hair?

I've decided that I don't want to continue relaxing my hair, but it's been so long since I've had natural hair. I just need to know what sort of products I should use. What are the best products to use on natural African American hair?
I've gone natural for four years. Best thing I ever did! My hair is in my mid-back and very healthy. I had to go through a lot of garbage to find a few products that seem to be quite good. You don't need a bunch of products. (I learned the hard way!). If you don't want to use expensive products, ';Organics'; is a good haircare line. They use a lot of natural ingredients and most of their products don't contain alcohol. Alcohol is the number one killer for breakage next to poor hair maintainance! It dries out your hair like crazy! When you have natural hair, you need moisture! If you don't mind spending a bit of money, ';Ojon'; is an excellent haircare line for natrual hair! I'll tell you what I'm using for myself. I'm using ';Pantene Hydrating Curls'; shampoo and conditioner. Sometimes I use ';At One With Nature'; too. I always use the ';Reconstructor Conditioner'; detangler in the ';At One With Nature'; line no matter what shampoo I'm using. It's an amazing detangler! With the length of my hair, I need something to comb through this huge amount of hair I have! (I have enough for three people! lol!) I use the ';Ojon'; treatment and the leave in spray treatment. That is what has made my hair so strong. It was breaking and those products restored my hair to the state it's in now. Great stuff! As a moisturizer, I use the serum in the ';Organics'; line. I find cream moisturizers are messy on natural hair and most times don't provide the moisture needed. To give my hair some sheen and added moisture, I use the Tea-Tree Shine Strengthening Hair Polish from ';Organics';. It leaves a nice sheen, and provides moisture. I hope this helped. It was lengthy and I'm sorry for the long read. Good luck on grooming your natural hair! What are the best products to use on natural African American hair?
Good for you...try these sites dedicated to natural hair:

    Enjoy and be Safe...(smiles)
u should use natural hair products or olive root stimulator those are the best i been using cocunut oil brand name is parachute and it makes my hair shiny and soft and real black i still do have a perm and all. why dont u go to an indian community and pick up some hair products its very cheap trust me
I work on African textured hair a lot....I always recommend using a leave in treatment (don't forget to defuse hair) such as Bumble and bumble leave in conditioner (can be used on all hair types.)

It is great in quality and can be used as a wash out conditioner as well.

Dont wash your hair more than four days a week! You dont want to dry your hair out.

Use a wide toothed comb to untangle wet hair (which is most fragile.) Comb bottom of hair and work your way up.

Curl enhancer products that are good:

Osis Twist, works fast and will help your curls!

Ouidad climate control gel- Helps fill the cuticle and delivers amino acids and proteins to the hair.

Finger curl your hair in front so your curls look even better (do when your product is in and hair is still damp)

Make sure you use a anti frizz serum last which I would recommend Osis magic anti frizz gloss serum (get at salons)

Good luck and take your time keeping it healthy!!!
I've been natural 2 years in April and I'm loving every minute of it! I would suggest www.nappturality.com for all your natural hair care needs, especially during transition as it was a life saver for me. I steer clear of most hair products because of the alcohol and ';cone'; found in so many. Get yourself a good conditioner and ';lace'; it with nutrients. I rarely shampoo, only conditioner washes. I use Suave Coconut Conditioner and add a bit of honey and olive oil for natural humectants which lock in moisture. For added mosturizer the best kept secret for me is Burt's Bees Bath and Body oil made from lemon and sweet almond oil extracts. That's pretty much all that I use and my hair feels light and airy all day. If you're wanting to slick hair back into a puff try natural aloe vera gel which you can by at central market or whole foods stores. Once a month I use a apple cider vinegar rinse made from that and water to get rid of any build up. Hope this helps!
Carol's Daughter has some great products. They make your hair smell %26amp; feel great
Ive been natural for about seven years now and carols daughter makes good products.....most of the products that are in the stores are no good for natural african american hair there are few that are ok........but for the most part stay away from heavy products use light products....... if you insist on using something out of the store a good product is wonder gro http://www.wonder-gro.com/main.html their products are light and wont clog ....try using pure shea butter ....not the kind sold in the store but from here http://www.nasabb.com/ this is shea butter in the pure form (also great for skin) just do a little experimenting and visit this site http://www.nappturality.com/forum/ this is the biggest african american natural hair resource on the web and the women are so supportive ...if it wasnt for that website I would have been so lost lol and would not have known how to maintain my hair when I went natural years ago .......so check it out and good luck 2 u :)

How do you make damaged, african american hair grow faster?

Because my hair feels like it never grows

and it seems like the roots are damaged not the ends at least thats what my mom says.

And is there any creams, mousse, masks etc that can help my really damaged hair grow? How do you make damaged, african american hair grow faster?
Alright- You are doing alot to your hair. It needs a rest! Chemicals such as relaxers weaken your hair. Then it is dried out even more by straighening it after you wash. The idea is to not put your hair through any more stress than you have to. If you must relax your hair, go to the beauty shop and have a professional to do it. Definately do not straighten your hair. Make sure that you deep condition your hair after every wash. Keep it moisturized. I have used Carol's Daughter products and they are awesome! They are natural and give your hair what it needs to grow. Check out this site. Some celeb's use these products too. It is worth the investment. How do you make damaged, african american hair grow faster?
your hair can grow and damage can be repaired. healthier hair will grow better so kill two birds with one stone.

1.healthy diet should make hair healthier and grow particulary the following..natural vitamins found in fruits and omega3 found in fish. omega 3 helps hair and nails to grow, protien found in meats such as chickens and nuts. organic is best. most supplements dont work and never work as well as eating the right foods

2.chlorine damages hair, get a shower filter for your shower they arent that expensive it blocks chlorine and your hair and skin wont be as dry. the dryness and damage cause by chlorine cause split ends and breakage so you lose your hair..healthy hair stays entact so it can stay gorwing longer..

    3. stay away from products..with dyes and chemicals that damage hair..use USDA ceritified organic hair care and read labels. many products use the word organic but they are loaded with chemicals that cause cancer and actualy damage you hair. there is one hair company who's brand name is organic and there is nothing organic about it..

4.vinegar is a good natural conditionor.

    good luck
YEA! i have this same problem what i did for a long period of time like 3 moths i didn't get perms i just pressed it every know and then when it got nappy. Then i use this kind of gel or grease call TCB it really helps make your hair shiny and its good for teens, kids, and adults. Last thing i do is take this pill called Biotin..... man that thing works! lol after 2 weeks you should see hair growth fast. The pill is small and large. The larger one helps the fastest but if you hate large pills the small one will get just about as much work done as the larger pill.

    ----Hope this helps a little

    ---Nikki
    You should try dr miracles.

its a little on the expensive side but its worth it.

i thought my hair would never grow but i started using dr. miracles and kept all kind of heat out my hair even hot water i also kept my hair wrapped with a silk scarf and cut my split ends every 3 weeks and my hair was growing in no time.
Its your tips...as your hair grows, it just continues to break off...if you look very closely to your scalp, you should notice wavy hair, thats ';new growth'; anyways as far as hair growth, you need to challenge yourself, spare 6 months in your life, cuts your damaged tips and take the mega tek challenge...

How can you make loose waves/curls on relaxed african american hair?

I'm african american ,and I have a relaxer in my hair(it's shoulder length). When I don't straighten my hair it gets pouffy. And all I know how to do is straighten my hair; but I really want a hairstyle that looks like loose waves or curls without having to do too much to it. What can I do? Are there any products I could use?How can you make loose waves/curls on relaxed african american hair?
    try jeri curls

mark kHow can you make loose waves/curls on relaxed african american hair?
I did not like your answer at all no offense but jeri curls are greasy and ugly.

straighten your hair, let it cool and then take a curling iron to it and curl it.
you dont need to add any grease because they are so greasy already

What the best treatment for african american hair (to restore it and keep the hair strong)?

My hair is very weak and i need something to make it stronger. Whats the best shampoo and conditioner? I used to use Paul Mitchell. Is that fine? I would also like a moisturize that will help my hair to grow longer and faster... any recommendations? What the best treatment for african american hair (to restore it and keep the hair strong)?
Paul Mitchell is actually a good choice; however, it is not all natural and as a stylist, I have found that natural products work better on african american hair. Why? Because black hair needs a lot of moisture to stay strong and grow, it does not produce natural oils like many other hair types. Any hair care products packed with natural oils will make your hair thrive. The best all natural products, that also make African American hair grow fast are Beauty 4 Ashes A Double Portion hair growth products. They have great oils like shea, jojoba, sunflower, avocado, and emu. I would also recommend Carol's daughter's hair milk.

    Also, do the following things:

    1) Limit heat styling to once a week

    2) Limit hair coloring

    3) Try to relax no more than every 6-8 weeks

    4) Do not trim your hair unless it is ravaged...get rid of your cut happy stylist. Dominican stylists are supportive of growing african american hair

5)Eat lean protein, such as soy, fish, turkey, egg whites, and chicken

    6) Take a B Complex VitaminWhat the best treatment for african american hair (to restore it and keep the hair strong)?
i am a black british lady. i would recommend african pride shampoo and leave in conditioner, then i use top brass to moisturise my hair. they have both strenghtened my hair.but for growing my hair,i put in extentions for a while.
You need to go to the root of the problem and find out why your hair is weak. Shampoos and conditioners are temporary. Once you find out why your hair is weak only then will it begin to grow longer and get stronger.
Sometimes I use Silky Elements. You can buy it from Sally Beauty Supply.
my hair use to be weak but i've been using dudley's hair care products and i've seen a major difference.

i use the shampoo, conditioner and it's another product like special something for you roots.
    Coconut oil
Thats a heartache to hear about ur hair ma

what I would do in a situation like that

is wash it only twice a week with a deep intensive mosturizing conditioner [such as Pantene, Dark n Lovely, or L'oreal products]

change your pillow case to silk or satin covers, or wrap your hair in s silk cap at night if you feel your room is too hot or dry [tends to be if no air is circulating] have a small bowl of water by your bed head. Water will evaptorate, and cause less brittle damage to your hair at nights [however you dont have to wear the cap/pillow case and do the water trick at the same time]

your food intake is also important: PROTEINS and GREENS help promote hair growth eg..Whole wheat bread eggs fish fresh fruits creal etc... DO NOT ADD HEAIR GREASE TO YOUR SCALP! that just slows down you hair growth, only to scalp when dry you can use dr.miracles gro oil its very good. This isnt a over night remedy.. just keep doing em steps and you'll see improvements

Don be afraid to ask me any further questions

    SORRY FOR THE LONG AWSER
well dr. miracle works. and u could also go 2 sally's beuty supply store for help
Dr. Miracle hair line works like a charm and has a tingling sensation.
keep it oiled wit carrot oil or sumthin of dat sort. as far as shamppos and stuff, i personally like QUEEN HELENE and HAWAIIN SILKY products.
