Why is it important to wash African American hair once a week?

My mom agreed to letting me wash it every other week, and she still barely lets me!! I know I need to wash it once a week though. So do you have REAL reasons (Not like: So its clean) why its important to wash it once a week. Thanks! Why is it important to wash African American hair once a week?
As an african american i suggest that you take a look at blackhairmediaforum.com, look under the hair growth section. Like most of the ladies have said it tends to be because our hair, in its natural state is highly textured. As a result the oils have difficulty reaching the ends of the scalp. This creates dry hair especailly if you wash it with a harsh shampoo. Contrary to popular belief you can wash your hair everyday, but the trick is to use conditoner like V05, suave, or white rain, because they are somewhat thin and they are easy to rinse out. The thing about conditioner washing is that it helps to clean the scalp without leaving your hair dry like shampoo does. Also remember that clean hair grows, so just slap on some conditoner on your hair, rub it onto your scalp, and rinse very well. One of the goods things about conditoner washing is that it cleans your hair however it also give moisture because of the emollients and the small amounts of cleaning agents present. Why is it important to wash African American hair once a week?
Hi, having clean hair IS important. Another important think is that you stimulate your hair follicles by the massaging motion of the shampooing. This stimulates blood flow. Guys aren't the only ones that lose their hair. It can happen to us women too if you don't take care of your scalpes. Listen to your mom and wash your hair every week. Also ready this:

and make sure you're not using the wrong kind of oil that will clog your pores and make your hair look overly greasy.
Because if african americans wash there hair everyday it breaks and it gets really poofed out! thats why some have grease in their hair, or they put it up. Its totally natural for them to do this.
Because African-Americna hair is tightly curled, the scalp is not as oily as most other hair types. Washing the hair constantly would remove the hair oils and leave the hair dry.
Because it removes the natural oils out of their hair.....also Because ethnic hair doesn't have alot of oil in their hair.
