How to make african american hair grow?

I want to now ways to make black hair grow faster? How to make african american hair grow?
Well it really all depends. You don't specify whether your hair is relaxed and natural and there are some differences. Either way our hair does have some growth problems, but not becuase of cornrows like the above answerer suggested. In fact, occasional cornrows can be a helpful protective hairstyle (I will explain more about these) and help a hair type that is very fragile when loose, grow.

First, you need to address breakage if you want your hair to grow. Breakage is very common on Black hair whether relaxed or natural for different reasons. Both go back to ignorance about our hair's needs and treating it like straight hair. The best advice I can give you is to baby your ends and your hair will grow. It is growing now but the hair is likely breaking as fast as it comes out of the scalp. http://nappyme.wordpress.com/hair-facts/鈥?/a>

I will address the issues that black hair has with growing. You didn't specify whether your hair was relaxed and natural. So I will address both.

NATURAL HAIR:

It does not have the damage relaxed hair does but it often doesn't grow, why?

1. Shrinkage, it may appear hair is not growing when it is. Kinky/curly hair has been known to shrink up to 75% it's actual length.

2. The texture causes the strands to rub up against each other when free (not in a protective style like palm rolls and twists) causing breakage as the inner layers are exposed and hair tangles. Put it into styles that protect ends and are low stress on the hair. Buns, cornrows, flat twists, plaits, braids, dreadlocs are good examples if this. Does this mean you can never wear napptural/relaxed hair loose? No but not every day if you want it to grow.

3. Also curly/kinky hair breaks easier when treated like straight hair. You can't comb it with a narrow tooth comb while dry. That is like a daily hair cut for napptural hair. You can only comb it with a wide tooth comb while it has a conditioner with slip in it. [naturalhairgrows.com]

RELAXED HAIR:

1. It doesn't have the tighter texture of natural hair but it also isn't straight hair. Is is essentially damaged and that's the one thing you have to remember about it. It needs protein treatments (like Aphogee 2 step treatment) and protective hair styles and gentle treatment. Otherwise breakage causes it not to grow. [youtube.com, longhaircareforum.com]

BREAKAGE SOLUTIONS:

The myth that kinky hair doesn't grow needs to be dispeled. What keeps it from gowing very often is damage to strands which causes breakage. Relaxers weaken hair but even if you have natural hair our strands are thinner than other races and often tangle together causing breakage. If you baby the ends your hair will grow. Personally I am transitioning from a relaxer. But whether natural or relaxed some of the same principles apply. [naturallycurly.com]

1. Condition after every time you wash. I like Pantene Relaxed and Natural. It has a lot of slip so detangling is a breeze.

2. Find out what ingredients in hair products are harmful. Many are drying and silicones and sulfates are potentially damaging becuase they are harder to get out of curly hair than straight hair=product buildup=dry fragile hair. [motowngirl.com, nappturality.com, naturallycurly.com, longhaircareforum.com]

3. Only detangle hair when it is loaded with conditioner and preferably one with a lot of slip. Use fingers or a wide tooth comb. Brushing hair is actually a no no, it can cause breakage in curly.nappy hair.

4. But brushing has a good side effect we might miss. Stimulating the scalp for blood flow and hair growth. To compensate massage scalp daily for 5 minutes. Or just brush your scalp.

5. Recognize what causes breakage. Unhealthy hair is the main culprit but rough fabrics, heat, dry hair, brushing, rough detangling, coloring, repetitive styling can make situation worse. Always wear a satin cap to bed and sleep on satin pillowcase. Limit chemicals in your hair is you put them in at all. And don't do the same style every day as this creates a breaking point in hair.

6. Deep condition. This is different than regular conditioning. It is more beneficial to hair as it can penetrate deeper into strands. Buy a deep conditioning treatment and have a hair spa day every two weeks.

7. If your hair is relaxed hair you must recognize that the bonds of the hair are broken to make it straight and it is essentially damaged hair. Deep condition regularly, do protein treatments and just use a good leave in conditioner as well as all of the above.

8. Unique care for natural care is low manipulation styles and conditioning as well. Protein treatments are usually NOT needed as hair is not damaged. Detangle when conditioned. You also need to put the hair in protective hair styles like buns, twists, coils, braids, etc.

GROWTH SOLUTIONS:

1. I have heard good tHow to make african american hair grow?
I personally use Stretch hair creme. It makes my hair grow. I get my ends trimmed regularly. I also go to a beautician who's more concerned about my having healthy hair than having a certain look. Also, you can take vitamins. Don't blow dry or add heat to your hair everyday. It damages the hair a lot.

Braids are great for the hair. I don't recommend getting Micro braids and when you get braids make sure your ends are cut before your hair is braided and make sure you moisturize at least once a week.
