African american hair?

i am an african american boy and my hair is 1 inch long and i want twist. how long does my hair have to be to get twist.and i dont want dreads at the final result.im going to take out the twists and get braids.and can i also have some info on short twists.thank youAfrican american hair?

grow it another inch and do tewists...grow it another 5 inches and then braid your hair...so it wont look trashy

Well u can start by getting twists with the comb, that way you won't have to wait for a decent style.( that's when the rattail comb is dipped in a gel oil mixture and comb through the hair while twisting it) Next is the two strand twists when it gets long enough to grip in between fingers. If your hair is very kinky a little relaxer may be needed. However there is no need to cut your hair after a relaxer just to get braids. Once it grows out long enough to braid. I suggest a leave in conditioner and clipping your ends regularly in between styling.
To get twist you need about another inch and you know that you haft to get a relaxer on it to get twist and then you can't get braids after that because your hair will break off. So if you get twist you will have to shave your hair and regrow to get braids!
just let grow out another inch and start with small plats.
